School Accountability

School Accountability Committees provide school-level insight on a variety of topics to the district-level committee (DAAC). SAC stands for School Accountability Committee.

The purpose of the SAC is to inform, encourage & provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning & evaluation of the school's instructional program, school safety, school wellness & quality improvement processes.

The SAC makes recommendations concerning the school's performance, improvement, priority improvement, & meets at least once per quarter to discuss implementation of the school's plan & other progress pertinent to the school's accreditation contract with the Board of Education. The SAC also makes recommendations to the principal for prioritizing spending of school monies.

• Discuss major school issues
• Report to the District Accountability Advisory Committee (DAAC)
• Meet at least once per quarter

What are Improvement Plans?

Unified Improvement Planning (UIP) was developed to streamline state and federal improvement planning requirements, as well as create a single plan that meaningfully engages stakeholders. Colorado schools and districts can improve student learning and system effectiveness by engaging in a cycle of continuous improvement to manage their performance. To support this purpose, each Colorado district and school creates or updates an improvement plan routinely for public posting. These plans are available for each school. Please go to Performance Framework Reports and Improvement Plans and search for your school. 

What are Performance Frameworks?

The Colorado Department of Education publishes annual School and District Performance Frameworks (SPFs and DPFs) that provide school plan type and district accreditation ratings under the state accountability system. Official ratings are based on student outcomes on key performance indicators: Academic Achievement, Academic Growth, and Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness. Districts and schools earn points for each key indicator, and then points are combined to determine the overall percentage of points earned. The State Board of Education defines cut-points for accreditation ratings based on the overall percentage of points earned on the performance framework.
